The Sophos Virtual Email Security Appliance combines strong security, data protection, and ease of administration in a VMware virtual appliance. Features include detection of zero-day threats, email encryption, data loss prevention, spam filtering (the company claims to block over 99% of spam), automated maintenance, wizard-based policy and configuration management, and interoperability and clustering with Sophos’ other security products, including hardware appliances.

Sophos has expanded its range of email security and data protection products with a virtual email security appliance, designed to offer enhanced inbound and outbound threat protection with simplified management at a low cost.

Available immediately for VMware virtualised environments, the Sophos Virtual Email Appliance  integrates data loss prevention with email encryption and proactive spam and malware protection. It is also completely interoperable with Sophos hardware appliances and other products.

The virtual security appliance market will experience staggering compound annual growth of around 98 per cent between 2007-2013, according to IDC. Global IT security and data protection company Sophos today announced the availability of its Virtual Email Security Appliance -- the first virtual security appliance to bring strong security, data protection, and administration ease to the latest VMware virtual environments.

A member of the highly acclaimed Sophos Email Security and Data Protection product line, the new virtual email appliance brings the same integrated protection and simplified management of Sophos's hardware appliances to VMware virtualized environments -- providing a uniquely integrated solution that combines data loss prevention (DLP) and email encryption with proactive spam and malware protection.

Complete interoperability and clustering with Sophos's hardware appliances and other Sophos security products  In 2010, the Sophos Email Security Appliance was recognized by several independent industry test centers. Michael Thorson, Director of Infrastructure, University of British Columbia (UBC) -- Sophos Customer.

"The virtualization direction from Sophos matches UBC's strategy, allowing us to use our standard Virtual Server offering to host their email appliance (spam filter). John Gog, Network System Administrator, City of Birmingham -- Sophos Customer

"We've been using the Sophos Email Security Appliance since early 2009 alongside other Sophos solutions and all the solutions continue to do exactly what Sophos promised -- stop viruses, malware, and spam, and protect confidential information with minimal administration. The virtual email appliance fits in well with our increasing virtualized environment.

Existing Email Security Appliance customers can tap this latest virtual offering using their existing email appliance license. Sophos offers award-winning encryption, endpoint security, web, email, and network access control solutions backed by SophosLabs -- a global network of threat intelligence centers.
