Companies that have spam through their business email system could make sure that they are protected by turning to hosted email.

Small and medium-sized businesses are being warned to never distribute financial information over the internet after it was found that one in ten email users have been tricked by spam emails. Firms could also install anti-virus and anti-spam settings on their email systems to help reduce the risk of attack from a criminal looking for information.

People must stop replying to spam emails if they are to stay safe from data loss and its associated problems, according to an expert with a not-for-profit organisation. It found that one in ten people are fooled by spam emails promising a financial reward.

More than 95 percent of emails targeted at Irish email account users contained spam, according to experts. “For every five clean emails that are delivered to users’ inboxes, we are dumping 95 Spam emails,” IE CEO Phelim O’Connell said.
